Scraping the Tongue

13 · Feb · 2006

Yesterday we had a Baby Brunch in Del Mar with about 17 of our friends to celebrate the pending arrival of our daughter. Mike then celebrated with his friend Dave and about a dozen DIFFERENT beverages that could have disinfected Eastern Europe. This had something to do with opposing thumbs. But you'll have to ask Dave or Mike about that.

I really wish a picture could speak the thousand words that are needed to describe a drunken father to be. If I find out that it does, I will post one here when I see it.

Alas, my loving man fondled me in public. Mostly he played with my hair so much I checked for bald spots when I got home. But also he told entertaining stories to the entire restaurant. At least, I think he was speaking to the entire crowd, because I know they could all hear him.

The best thing, however, is that 17 people were there. SEVENTEEN! We thought we had sufficiently ignored these people long enough that most of them would not respond to our invitation to see us before the birth and other madness begins. But people showed up anyway, many of them bearing gifts! I think I was so excited when I walked in and saw everyone that I was jittery - even short of breath. I felt like a kid at her first birthday party. I kept thanking everyone for coming because I truly was so freaking happy they did. My only regret is that I could not possibly talk to everyone long enough and make up for the last six months of being a sloth of the social scene.

Mike and I agreed that we would remember yesterday for a very long time. At least until April when the loss of sleep from taking care of a newborn takes over our sanity.

I'm about to write our last Baby Update until after the actual birth. For those of you who aren't subscribed to the Janiak Baby Update, I want to share the following photos of Mike and I as babies, which would be included. I am the extremely giddy baby with the double chin. Mike is the cranky tyke shown with his parents. Something tells me our tiny baby will have cheeks that can hold food reserves for two seasons.
