I realize this may be considered a tad harsh by some of you, And I'm not usually one to be so openly opinionated and blunt. What I really wanted to say was "You owe this country $(insert unpayable dollar amount here) in back taxes you ungrateful shits! Pay up! Get out! Or go to jail like the criminals you are! I'm sick of you taking advantage of those of us who do pay taxes and abide by the laws of this country. I DO NOT need to post business signs in any other language than English! We do not owe you healthcare. You should not be allowed to stay here because you had a baby here. OK, fine. Your kid can stay, but you are breaking the law. You leave! Don't like that? Then take your kid with you. He or she can come back when he's 18. We don't owe you a damn thing. You have no right to protest! You are CRIMINALS."

When Nick and I moved to England in 1997 I was barely given permission to work in that country. And Nick, being a student, could only work 20 hours a week. We had to immediately register with the local police station within something like 3 days of our arrival and anytime we moved, we were to register again. The immigration laws are serious business there and it was made very clear to us that the UK had no intention of taking in anyone they didn't need, even two Americans who adored the UK and were quite capable of supporting themselves. It didn't matter that Nick's family lived there or that his father was a distingushed professor. It didn't matter that Nick had lived there for nearly 10 years when he was a kid. At the time I was annoyed at thier laws, but it never occured to me that England "didn't have the right" to prevent me from creating what I thought would be a better life for myself. I didn't feel they owed me anything. Actually, looking back, I think I respected the UK more for enforcing thier laws. The message I got was that England had it's shit together and wouldn't just let anyone in their country to mooch of thier resources. England didn't need my Okie ass. England was fine, thank you.

This is a far cry from the message our stupid American Immigration enforcement sends. Cheap labor is available here because Americans are greedy. The only way to get these people to stop flocking to our country and screwing with our resourcesis to stop giving them jobs. Refuse to hire someone unless they are legal. I'm not against immigration. I'M AGAINST ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.
