Nothing a Lifetime of Hair Product Won't Fix
11 · Feb · 2007
August's 1st birthday is coming up and it is only just now that we have noticed she does look a bit like me - at least a little. Though many women have told me that they too had to deal with children that look just like thier fathers and not at all like the mother, most of these women look someowhat similar to their husbands so I don't think they quite understand what I feel. Mike and I look nothing alike. Nothing. He and August have the blue eyes and the childhood light hair. For the first year of August's life I have heard nothing but how she resembles his family. Then again, who am I hearing this from? His family.
While there is no denying that father and daughter look similar, the child gets that hair from my side of the family. Ask my sister about her single wave in the back of her hair. People don't realize it, but there are mostly light eyes and fair haired children in my family. Every grandchild of my parents has blonde hair. But what finally convinced me was this photo of me on my 1st birthday which reminded me of my longtime struggle with sideswept bangs and friz in the back of my head.

That is my grandmother behind me providing a colorful backdrop for the photo. Arguments about where August gets her insanity later.

She also gets her chubby cheeks from you (when you were her age/till you started walking). Then it was Miss little slim all the way. And trying to do everything as fast as you could, didn't have time to take things at a slow pace and you always had a smile on your face. So August has a lot of you in her and I have a feeling some of the stubborness. Have a great day and send us some pictures of the house. Love Ya! mom

Doesn't it excite you to see similarities of yourself in her? I know I was really excited to see some in Sophia since she does look so much like Keith. It took me seeing the picture of me at three months to get it.
Love you!!

Now Penny, I know what you're going through - it's not easy. Sam, always looked like Uncle Bill & my mother-in law, especially. It was constant, "She looks just like Florence" or "She looks just like Bill E.
She did however, have Hymie's blue eyes. Considering that Bill & I both have brown eyes, another annoying thing I heard often was, "Oh her eyes won't stay blue, they'll cahnge."
SO! is what I wanted to say to these people. But, my response was usually, "Oh...well, whatever..." Meanwhile, almost 19 years later, she's still got Da's baby blues.
Anywhoo, back to kids looking like the spouses side of the family, here I go. I have to say Penny-lah, she does look EXACTLY, like Michael. I know it hurts, but you never know, kids faces sometimes change when they get older...
Maybe your second (I'm sure gorgeous) child will look like you! Look at Melissa & me, she's always been a mini-me, & it's delightful. So doll, you've got the house, by the way CONGRATULATIONS, MAZEL TOV, & BEST WISHES to you & Mike & little, beautiful, & precious August. Maybe now you can think about # 2, 3, 4, etc...? Odds are your bound to come up with a "mini-me". And you know the Glovins are always available for babysitting help.
Lots of love,
Aunt Sher
P.S. Thank G-d for this snow day, I'm so busy I usually don't have time to respond to your blogs - yippeee, sleet & snow!
