That'll Be 80K, Please. Thanks.

I sometimes forget that before I became a gypsie with no permanent address I had some decorating sense. And now that MJ and I will finally have our own home, complete with outrageous mortgage, we will get to decorate as we see fit. Just the thought hanging a picture without worrying that we will lose a rental deposit makes me a little misty eyed.

With that in mind, I’ve been wandering the Internet picking up photos of décor I love.
I will now pray to the Saint Pocketbook, the patron saint of materialistic, eccentric poor-folk for wisdom and strength.

MJ and I have talked about putting a chalkboard wall in August's room, but I'm wondering if it might be fun to have it in another part of the house as well.

Plans for Augs room does include some creative painting.

This is my favorite tub. I will probably have to cheat and lie to get it again someday.

We have fabulous stairs at the new place. Maybe not this carpet, but something like it would be killer.

I'm growing fond of tulip tables.

We've been talking about doing a project like this for some time. A portrait wall. Or a mugshot wall, depending on which side of the family is represented.

The joys of home ownership are just around the corner fro us. Less than one month away. Mercy. Mercy on my little soul.

Can I get that in perrywinkle blue?

Hopefully you guys know to get a 15 year fixed mortgage. 20 percent down-payment preferred, otherwise you pay PMI. These differences can mean a huge mount of money saved or flushed. Look at these number's courtesy of Dustin the accountant...

150k home...
30 year with no down payment - total cost = $356k
30 year with 30k down - total cost = $302K
15 year with 30k down - total cost = $218k

The PMI is worth 10k in savings! That would be awwsome in a good mutual fund. It would pay for August's college tuition. The extra money could by a lot of drapes. :-)

Go for it, you can always change the color of paint. You and Mike can make it the home you have always wanted, little by little. The only sugestion I have is (in our home)too much furniture can take away from the feel you want. It is not how much you have it is how it makes you feel, which is that you are a family. You both have excellent decorating skills, looking forward to seeing how your home shows your personalities. Like the pictures you have above, very neat. Love Ya! Mom

Hint on the clawfoot tub: Find one at a junkyard or someplace like that and have it refinished. It's pretty cheap to have them refinished, maybe around $200. Keith and I would like to get one someday.

I'm so excited for you! I always loved your decorating sense!

From one mom to another, there is a paint available that becomes a chalkboard when you paint it on. Two coats, and your little one will have hours of fun! It comes in black or green. You can paint over it when she grows up. We have it in our playroom and my son loves it! Hope you enjoy the new home!

Tell Jeff that in New Jersey $150K buys you a half acre of swampland, a wood shack, and an ice cream cone.
