Tiny Needles in My Skin

7 · Mar · 2007

One year ago today my neighbor, East, came over and used acupuncture on me to get me to go into labor.

I was always afraid of needles. I used to faint or come close to it every time I got a shot or had blood drawn. But these little things were nothing as long as I didn't look at them.

She put a couple in my collarbone area, my ankles and my pinky toes. She twisted them too, pulling them in and out. I laid on our couch, 10 days past my due date and tried to relax. Little did I know those needles were doing exactly what East said they would. Later that night, my first contractions began.

Looking back now, on one hand I can't belive I, of all people chose acupuncture to jumpstart my labor. On the other hand, we did name the baby August Moon and my very white American neighbor's name is East.

Her brother's name is West, by the way. Make's you wonder what we should name our next baby, huh?
