The Rabbi and the Priest
28 · Sep · 2006
After all The Great Jew Confession last Saturday, my friend Gabi Popa sent me a few jokes around the issue. Here is the best one:
The chief Rabbi goes to Vatican to visit the Pope. While in his office, he notices a red phone on the desk and asks about it. The Pope sais "well, this is my direct line to God."
"Can I make a call?" asks the rabbi
"Sure, go ahead!" says the pope
So the rabbi is on the phone with God for about five minutes; he hangs up and asks the pope "OK, I'm done. Thank you. How much do I owe you for the call?"
"Oh, no, you shouldn't pay anything, you are my guest, just take it as part of the hospitality"
"But please, I insist" sais the rabbi
"OK, fine. It's 200 euro"
After a few months, the pope pays a visit to Jerusalem to see his old friend, the chief rabbi. While in the rabbi's home, he notices a red phone.
"Rabbi, is this what I think it is?" asks the pope
"Of course! I followed your example, and decided to take advantage of current technology."
"May I ...?" asks the pope hesitantly
"You are my guest, my friend!"
So the Pope makes his phone-call, and after about 45 minutes he hangs up and asks
"Rabi, you are so kind. How much do I owe you for the call?"
"Nothing"
"Really, I insist, I've been talking for a long time. I don't want to abuse of your hospitality" sais the Pope
"I'm serious, It does not cost you anything!" sais the Rabbi. "It's local"
