West Meets East

26 · Oct · 2006

So, we made it through the jet-lag and the moving in and I'm back on the net.

The very first thing I would like to tell you about New Jersey is that unless you have been here, you have no idea what it's like.

I used to work part time here. Rather, we had half our clients spead between Harborside, NJ and the financial district in NYC. I know the Newark Airport and Jersey City and up to Times Square. I had been to Hoboken once. But the rest of this area is so not what they have been showing you on the Sopranos. I mean, yes, there are those areas, but they don't call NJ The Garden State for nuthin'. For example, all I have seen so far are beautiful neighborhoods and big yards filled with enormous trees and little townships that make Mayberry look like a deserted truck stop. I'll have all this with a side of hot apple pie, thank you!

The second thing I would like to tell you about NJ is that it is not NYC's little suburb friend. As a matter of fact, from what I can tell so far, the role is quite reversed. NYC is NJ's playground and point of interest. It's not like "NYC is too "something" so you can live in NJ if you have to." It's more like NJ people HAVE NYC. Like buying a sensible house with a waterpark in the backyard.

I'm sure all the NYC resdents are just going to roll their eyes and flip me off for that one.
