For Poorer and Sicker
16 · Apr · 2007
Last Friday MJ and I , in a cloud of watery eyes, itchy throats and noses that needed their own cleanup crews, drove our even more sickly daughter to the pediatrician so she could be tortured with a nebulizer right before we went to our lawyer's office so we could fork over our souls in exchange for a house. And even though we won't be able to move into said house until the 27th (at the earliest!), this was a good day.
Buying a house is as soul killing as it is exciting. The reason it's exciting is because you know that you don't have to fork over large sums of money every month to a person who doesn't return your phone calls and shrugs off the fact that you have a $200 electric bill when it's 70 degrees outside and you have not been running the AC. Been there. You still fork over a large sum of money every month to the Man, somewhere. But at least you know that money is working for you in the form of eventual home equity.
Another possible downside to buying a house is the feeling that you are now unable to travel. Your mortgage has killed your free spirit, so to speak. MJ and I am counting on this being a really stupid misconception. It's sort of like saying that when you get married your wild nights are behind you and I'm going to embarrass all my relatives right now by saying that is clearly a lie from where I stand.
Eh hem. So traveling is something that, frankly has to wait a bit on the age of our daughter rather than the location of our furniture. Ohh, and don't even get me started on how much money I've flushed for relocation between my jaunts to Romania or experiments in other American cities because I had to break or sign a lease somewhere.
Still, people talk. And their pessimism can send a shiver down my spine once in a while. So, for the record... Screw those people.
I sincerely believe that life is what you make it. And having a place to call home is going to be freaking brilliant.

Yes, life is what you make it and owning your own home is one of the greatest joys, below having a family and someone to share all of it with. Just think of all the birthday party's to come, August going on her first date from your home, who knows she may get married in your nice big back yard. The Easter Egg hunts, clover, bees, climbing trees, riding bikes and millions of other very precious memories you will have a place to share it from. And best of all just because you and Mike wanted this to be your first home. "It's Great"
Sincerely hope this finds all three of you feeling better. I HATE COLDS! Enough of mom saying go for what you three want in life, its yours. LOVE YA! MOM

Congrats. Sincerely. No matter how much I travel or where I sleep, there is always this nice feeling when I come home. Now when you click your heels 3 times, you will know where your headed. :-)
Whats up with your weather?

I'm just so excited that you have your house! I'm sure the tales of homeownership are just as bad as ones of childbirth. Everyone wants to make you understand that while it's a beautiful thing LOOK OUT! because here are all the horrible things that are going to happen. While some may be true (and I'm speaking of the childbirth stories here) I wouldn't change it for the world.
So let them talk! And eat cake! Cause you own a house and I would rather that than pay someone every month. Which of course, we still do. Sigh......someday.
