Today I spoke to my mom on the phone and wished her a Happy Mother's Day.
This year I meant it more than I ever have before.

My mom, the daughter of a single mother, raised me, my brother and sister often alone. My dad was in the military and too often was called away to this country or that, leaving my mom with us kids. That's the way it is when you have a parent in the military. It's a sacrifice that only the strongest of spouses can handle.
They say that you just adapt in a situation like that. And, to her credit, my mom tells me she "made do" and it wasn't so bad. But as a new mom myself, I can't help but be oh so much more grateful that she didn't lose her mind and send us all off to military school too.
I mean, it simply couldn't have been easy. Look at this motley bunch.

Mom, thank you. From the dry hairs on my head from breastfeeding, to my sore feet from pacing the house with my lovely August Moon - I LOVE YOU.
