I've Been Knighted

19 · Nov · 2006

So now that I have your attention and you know that my opinion is unavoidable, enforceable, and tasteless, (Am I talking about my opinion or high school dress codes?) I will share with you a conflict that pierces my heart so that the Suicide Girls have called me up to pose for their year end calendar.

I moved to NJ at a wonderful time in the state’s history. It is the time of the Scarlet Knights. For those of you who have had your head under a rock, the Rutgers University’s football team was undefeated for the season until last night. This is very significant because Rutgers, where the first ever college football game was played hasn’t had a football team worth mentioning in oh, say, since that first team.
I know, I thought college football MUST have been invented in the back field of some ranch in the Midwest too, but hey, just because we breathe it like oxygen in Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas, doesn’t mean we own it. Anyway, can you imagine the excitement of Jersey peeps everywhere?

I don’t have to imagine it, I am surrounded by it. In fact, my sister-in law, Lauren, is a student at Rutgers and my Uncle-in-law, Bill (obviously not the socially correct title) is the Editor of Rutgers Magazine. Now, none of this is a problem. Actually, it’s a bit fun to see Lauren on TV, having stayed up all night to get tickets to the game against Louisville. (Lauren is in the white coat and gloves) You may remeber Lauren from this famous flick produced in part by her brother, Matt. Not to mention the famous scene of the students storming the field after realizing their incredible win which my mother-in-law (who was there) describes with tears in her eyes.
Where I am tormented is HERE.

How can I possibly choose between my beloved University of Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops and genius coach Greg Schiano of Rutgers? I am sure this is all about ME and those of the Dark Side have been planning this since last year when we decided to move here. You can take the girl out of Oklahoma but you can’t take the crimson pride out of the girl.

But you know what? I have to give Coach Schiano a huge internet hug for the sweet he thing did for some chilly fans. He brought those students who were waiting out in the cold for game tickets pizza. Lauren and her friends got a whole pie. ::sigh::

Alright. This is one reason why I am seeing that NJ rocks. Stoops can have Coach of the Year. But Scarlet Fever hits quick. GO Knights!

PS- SG didn't really contact me. I believe I've been blacklisted for reasons I cannot disclose at this time. (:

Your loyalty would only be in question if Oklahoma and Rutgers were to play each other and you *gasp* cheered for Rutgers. ;)

So as a fellow Sooner, I give you my permission (ha! Like you need it from me...) to be a Rutgers fan. But if I ever hear that love for the Knights begins to take over your love for Crimson and Cream we will have words. Remember how great it was rubbing the Sooners in Brandy's face all those years ago? That was fun.

And you know I say all this in jest. I love you!!
